Practical Tips for Dealing with Tantrums

By Michelle Wilkerson

  • Remind your child that you love them, although their behavior is not acceptable.
  • Give them space to throw the tantrum, but with parameters. (You must stay in your room and may come out when you are finished. We cannot work this out until you stop crying, screaming, etc.)
  • Give two choices rather than one set course. (You may choose one of these two foods, outfits, places to, etc.)
  • Ask the Lord for creative ways to deal with your child.
  • Don’t be so hard on yourself. Remember, tantrums may come no matter how perfectly you parent.
